Hi folks!

A little evening post, to remind me of all the good things I've done during the day. And maybe stay accountable, motivated, and connected in some intangible way to people outside my house.

So, today I spent quite a bit of time editing. Nightmare Season, I've finished almost-final-final editing now. 6 stories still have comments on that I'm hoping my friendly editor will tell me if an edit works or not. So, barring disasters, I think the version currently sitting here will be the last update that I upload, ready for release at the end of the month.
If anyone looks at me on here and hasn't already seen the link, please take a look: [amazon link] - I'm thinking that if I can interest a few people enough to get pre-orders, it might rank well enough to get recommended to a few new readers on release day.

I was also majorly excited when the first proof copies for the print version came through. These are just for the layout, as I hadn't narrowed it down to a final set of stories when I ordered them. As I expected, the fleurons don't look like they're centred correctly, and the back cover blurb needs to be lowered by about a millimetre. Those are things I can fix, but I find it really hard to judge if page elements "look centred" without seeing a copy in the final binding.

As far as actual writing goes, I started on a new story which I have no idea how to describe. Umm... FMC doesn't know how to say no when someone offers her drugs. Tries out a new pill which is supposed to rejuvenate you, let you party all night like you're 18 again. Overdoses and wakes up to find she's now 3 years old; and will need a lot of help from her boyfriend until it wears off.

Also posted a new chapter on Wattpad for Mr Hook's Big Black Box, though it doesn't seem to be getting any love so far, and I'm not sure how to market it. It's Rashomon-style epic modern fantasy, but a little hard to pin down.

I also added a chapter to one of my other stories, which is basically a tale of a couple doing something fun together, and enjoying the 'happy ever after' bit, with little in the way of challenge to overcome. I was always taught that a story needs some kind of conflict; but there seems to be an audience for things like this, and I really enjoyed writing it. So it's nice to see that people enjoy reading it as well.

So, I think I did some pretty good things. And I'll try to do more tomorrow.
See you tomorrow, and keep on being excellent to one another.
You're joking, right?

I typed a full post, then accidentally clicked the "Crossposting settings" link below the compose window. Instead of opening in a dialog, or a new tab, it goes to another page. And going back, it's lost everything I typed.

Very much not impressed.

OK, Thursday's progress, in summary this time: Making an attempt to talk to people again. Reinstalled Slowly now I have less pressing deadlines. Looked over some last minute responses from my proofreader/carer/housemate, and pressed the "this is final" tickbox on 14 out of the 52 stories going into Nightmare Season. Of which I think 7 are Nightmare Fuel stories from previous years.

Done some more writing in a new (to me) niche. I didn't know it existed until a few months ago. Like non-sexy porn, I guess. Wish fulfilment stories for a particular interest. So easy to write, and kind of fulfilling; so I'll have to see if I hit the mark well enough to sell copies.

2710 words total. Just over 63⅓k for the month. Not doing too bad.

Hoping that posting each day about my life and my thoughts will help me stay motivated. It did before, so that habit needs to be reforged.
